Cx-Ronin — Limited Edition

Ronin were samurai without masters—warriors who no longer served a lord but continued to carry the swords, skills and traditions of the samurai.

That history inspired the Cx-Ronin and the materials chosen for it.

At the center of the razor is a custom-forged Stainless Damascus cap, created from layers of 304 and 316-series stainless steel. The forged pattern gives every cap an individual character—a modern interpretation of the relationship between forging, steel and the Japanese swordmaking tradition.

The Damascus cap is paired with a Grade 5 titanium Web base plate and a handle combining titanium and carbon fiber, bringing distinctly modern materials to a design inspired by an older tradition.

At approximately 37 grams, the result is also one of the lightest Cx configurations we've created.

The Cx-Ronin was produced in small numbers and is now being completed as a finite Carbon Limited Edition. Once the remaining pieces from this production have been finished, the Cx-Ronin edition will be retired.

Forged Stainless Damascus

The visual centerpiece of the Cx-Ronin is its Stainless Damascus cap.

Custom forged in the USA from 304 and 316-series stainless steels, the material is created by bringing multiple layers of stainless steel together into a single forged billet.

After machining, the cap is individually finished to reveal the pattern created within the material.

Because that pattern comes from the forged structure of the steel itself, every section of the billet is different. Each Cx-Ronin therefore develops its own individual Damascus pattern.

The geometry is repeatable. The pattern is not.

The Ronin

In feudal Japan, a rōnin was a samurai without a master.

Although a rōnin no longer served a lord, he remained part of the samurai warrior tradition and continued to carry the swords that symbolized it.

The name provided a natural connection to the material at the center of this Cx.

Traditional Japanese swordmaking and modern pattern-welded Damascus are different processes, but both demonstrate how forging can create visual structure within steel. The Cx-Ronin takes that idea in a contemporary direction through its forged Stainless Damascus cap.

Three Materials. One Cx.

The Ronin is unusual even among Carbon Limited Editions because of the combination of materials used throughout the razor.

The Stainless Damascus cap provides the forged pattern and visual character.

The Grade 5 titanium Web base plate dramatically reduces weight while maintaining the geometry of the Cx.

The handle combines Grade 5 titanium and carbon fiber, bringing another lightweight material into the design.

Together, those materials result in a complete razor weighing approximately 37 grams.

A Finite Limited Edition

The Cx-Ronin was produced in small numbers around this particular combination of materials and design.

It is not part of our regular Cx production, and we do not intend to continue producing this configuration indefinitely.

We are completing the remaining pieces from this production as a finite Limited Edition. Once those pieces have been finished, the Cx-Ronin edition will be retired.

Unlike our numbered six-piece editions, the Ronin was not originally created around a predetermined numbered quantity.

Small production. Finite configuration. When the remaining pieces are gone, the Ronin is finished.

Availability

The Cx-Ronin is finished individually, one razor at a time. It is not produced or kept in continuous inventory.

When another piece is finished, we make it available on the website and email customers who have asked to be notified.

Because each release may consist of only a single razor, receiving a notification does not reserve the piece. The finished razor is made available to everyone on the notification list and remains available until purchased.

Built Around the Cx

The materials make the Ronin unusual, but underneath them it remains a Cx.

The thin head profile, Cx Pinch Design with close-edge blade support, and distinctive Web base plate retain the fundamental engineering of the platform.

The materials determine the weight and character of the razor. Your selected Cx base plate determines the fundamental shaving characteristics.

Our mildest option. Recommended for those who prefer less blade feel, shave frequently or have sensitive skin.

Original | .68 mm

The original Cx configuration, with more noticeable blade feel and considerable control through shaving angle.

Plus (+) | .88 mm

A versatile balance of efficiency and reduced blade feel. A strong choice for denser growth or shaving every few days.

Plus Plus (++) | 1.08 mm

Our most efficient option, intended for heavier growth, longer intervals between shaves or those who simply prefer greater efficiency.

Because of the nature of forged Damascus and individual finishing, pattern and surface characteristics will vary from piece to piece. Small machining or finishing characteristics may be visible under magnification or on functional surfaces where preserving critical dimensions takes priority.

Caring for the Cx-Ronin

After shaving, rinse the razor thoroughly and allow it to dry.

For periodic cleaning or when changing blades, disassemble the razor and use warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush.

Avoid abrasive cleaners or aggressive polishing compounds on the Damascus cap and carbon-fiber components, as they may alter their finished surfaces.
