Grade 5 Titanium / ta-C Diamond-Like Carbon
The Cx-G2 explores a different side of the Carbon Cx: Grade 5 titanium finished in ta-C—tetrahedral amorphous carbon, a specialized form of Diamond-Like Carbon.
Unlike the deeper black DLC finish we use on some of our Damascus pieces, the ta-C treatment used on the G2 has a distinctive graphite-gray appearance, with subtle tonal variation that can shift with the light.
But the finish was chosen for more than its color.
Ta-C belongs to the harder end of the Diamond-Like Carbon family and is known for combining exceptional hardness, wear resistance and low-friction characteristics. Its structure contains a high proportion of sp³ carbon bonding—the same type of bonding associated with diamond.
For a company called Carbon, the connection was difficult to ignore.

What Is ta-C?
Diamond-Like Carbon isn't a single coating. It is a family of carbon-based surface treatments whose properties vary according to their structure and deposition process.
The G2 uses ta-C—tetrahedral amorphous carbon.
Ta-C is a hydrogen-free form of DLC characterized by a high proportion of sp³ carbon bonding. That structure contributes to the exceptional hardness and wear resistance associated with the material, while ta-C coatings are also valued for their low-friction characteristics.
Not every DLC coating is the same.
We also use a different DLC treatment on selected Carbon Damascus razors, where we specifically want a deeper black appearance. The ta-C used on the G2 has a more graphite-gray character and was selected as part of this particular interpretation of the Cx.

Carbon at the Surface
There is also an obvious connection between this material and our name.
Diamond and graphite are both forms of carbon. In ta-C, a high proportion of the carbon atoms are joined through the same sp³ type of bonding associated with diamond, which helps give the coating its characteristic hardness.
That made ta-C particularly compelling for the G2.
It isn't simply a dark finish applied to titanium. Carbon is literally part of the surface.
Graphite in Appearance. Titanium Underneath.
The G2's graphite-gray surface gives it a dramatically different appearance from our conventional titanium Cx, but underneath it remains Grade 5 titanium—Ti-6Al-4V.
The combination preserves one of titanium's defining advantages: low weight.
The current Cx-G2 weighs approximately 47 grams / 1.7 oz with its full-length S1 handle.
The thin cap, Web base plate and carefully proportioned handle further reduce unnecessary material.
The coating changes the surface. Titanium keeps the Cx light.
The S1 Handle
The current Cx-G2 uses our S1 titanium handle, inspired by the distinctive grip of the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife developed during World War II.
Rather than reproduce the knife literally, the S1 translates elements of its recognizable form into the proportions and function of a modern safety-razor handle.
Its full-length 92 mm / 3.6-inch profile provides a substantial gripping surface without sacrificing the low weight that defines the titanium Cx.
Because the G2 is produced periodically rather than as a permanent production model, its design can continue to evolve between production versions.
Produced in Limited Quantities
The Cx-G2 is part of our Limited Editions collection, but it is not a finite numbered edition.
We produce the G2 periodically in small quantities rather than as part of our regular titanium Cx production.
That gives us room to continue exploring the combination of titanium, advanced coatings and evolving Cx design without turning the G2 into a conventional production model.
When a small group is completed, we make them available.

Availability
The Cx-G2 is produced periodically in limited quantities rather than as part of our regular Cx production. It is not kept continuously in stock.
When a new group is completed, we make the razors available on the website and email customers who have asked to be notified.
Because availability is limited, receiving a notification does not reserve a razor. Each release is made available to everyone on the notification list and remains available until sold.

Built Around the Cx
Beneath the ta-C surface, the G2 remains a Cx.
Its thin head profile, Cx Pinch Design with close-edge blade support, and distinctive Web base plate retain the fundamental engineering of the platform.
The Grade 5 titanium and ta-C treatment change the weight, appearance and tactile character of the razor. Your selected Cx base plate determines the fundamental shaving characteristics.

Coating Note: Due to the ta-C coating process, a small electrical arc gap may be visible on the underside of the stand. Subtle rainbow or iridescent effects may also be visible. These are characteristics of the coating process and may vary from piece to piece.
Caring for the Cx-G2
After shaving, rinse the razor thoroughly and allow it to dry.
For periodic cleaning or when changing blades, disassemble the razor and use warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, metal polishes or aggressive compounds on the ta-C/DLC-treated surfaces.
