Cx-Atrum - Limited Edition 2 of 6
Atrum is a Latin word for black—but not simply black as a color. It was used to describe a deeper, darker black: the black of gathering storm clouds.
That idea became the inspiration for the Cx-Atrum.
The razor begins with polished 316L stainless steel, then interrupts that brightness with a mirror-black Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coated cap. The contrast is deliberate: reflective steel against deep black, light against shadow.
The DLC cap is paired with a High Polish 316L Web base plate and S1 handle, creating a Cx that is visually restrained but unmistakably different from our conventional stainless-steel razors.
Only six Cx-Atrum razors will be made.
Polished steel. Deep black. Six pieces.
Atrum — The Black of the Storm
The name Atrum comes from Latin.
In the story behind this razor, atrum refers to the dark black associated with gathering storm clouds—a black that suggests more than color alone.
It carries a sense of depth, presence and restraint.
That made it a natural name for this particular Cx.
Rather than coat the entire razor black, the Atrum uses darkness selectively. The black DLC cap sits above a High Polish stainless-steel base plate and handle, allowing the two surfaces to define one another through contrast.
The polished steel makes the black appear deeper.
The black cap makes the steel appear brighter.
Atrum isn't simply a black razor. It is a study in contrast.
Black Diamond-Like Carbon
The defining visual element of the Cx-Atrum is its mirror-black Diamond-Like Carbon coated cap.
The cap itself is precision machined from 316L stainless steel and refined to a High Polish before receiving its dark DLC treatment. The result is a glossy black surface that retains the precise geometry of the Cx while changing its visual character completely.
Diamond-Like Carbon refers to a family of carbon-based surface treatments known for combining a dark appearance with useful surface properties such as hardness and wear resistance.
For the Atrum, however, the finish is as much about character as performance.
The objective was not to make every component black.
It was to create one deep-black surface and allow the surrounding polished steel to frame it.
Darkness is most visible when placed next to light.
Limited to Six
The Cx-Atrum is a Limited Edition of six individually completed razors.
All six share the same defining combination: a mirror-black DLC-coated 316L cap paired with a High Polish 316L Web base plate and S1 handle.
Each razor is individually numbered as part of the six-piece edition.
Once all six have been completed, the Cx-Atrum edition is finished.
Six razors. One contrast. One finite edition.
Availability
Our Limited Editions are finished individually, one razor at a time. They are not produced or kept in continuous inventory.
When the next piece is finished, we make it available on the website and email customers who have asked to be notified.
Because each release may consist of only a single razor, receiving a notification does not reserve the piece. The finished razor is made available to everyone on the notification list and remains available until purchased.
If this Cx is currently unavailable, enter your email below and we'll let you know when the next one is finished and available.
This is a finite edition of six razors. Once the final piece has been completed and released, the edition is finished.
Finished one at a time. Released when ready. Limited to six.
High Polish 316L Stainless Steel
Beneath the black cap, the remainder of the Atrum is precision machined from 316L stainless steel.
We chose 316L for the Cx because it combines durability, corrosion resistance and the ability to develop an exceptionally bright polished surface when properly prepared.
For the Atrum, that polished surface serves an additional purpose.
The Web base plate and S1 handle are finished to a High Polish, creating a bright reflective counterpoint to the black DLC cap.
The complete razor weighs approximately 86 grams, giving the Atrum the substantial, planted feel associated with the stainless-steel Cx.
The black defines the cap. The polish defines everything around it.
The S1 Handle
The Cx-Atrum uses our S1 handle, inspired by the distinctive handle geometry of the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife developed during World War II. The original Atrum page identifies the S1 as being modeled after the Sykes fighting knife.
Rather than reproduce the knife literally, the S1 translates elements of its recognizable ringed and hourglass-like form into the proportions and function of a modern safety-razor handle.
For the Atrum, the S1 is precision machined from 316L stainless steel and finished to a High Polish.
Its full-length 92 mm / 3.6-inch profile provides a substantial gripping surface while maintaining the proportions of the Cx. The handle measures approximately 13 mm / 0.5 inch in diameter.
Built Around the Cx
The finish gives the Atrum its identity, but underneath it remains a Cx.
The thin head profile, Cx Pinch Design with close-edge blade support, and distinctive Web base plate retain the fundamental engineering of the platform.
The black DLC and High Polish stainless steel determine the visual character of the razor. Your selected Cx base plate determines the fundamental shaving characteristics.
Mild (–) | .71 mm
Our mildest option. Recommended for those who prefer less blade feel, shave frequently or have sensitive skin.
Original | .68 mm
The original Cx configuration, with more noticeable blade feel and considerable control through shaving angle.
Plus (+) | .88 mm
A versatile balance of efficiency and reduced blade feel. A strong choice for denser growth or shaving every few days.
Plus Plus (++) | 1.08 mm
Our most efficient option, intended for heavier growth, longer intervals between shaves or those who simply prefer greater efficiency.

Caring for the Cx-Atrum
After shaving, rinse the razor thoroughly and allow it to dry.
For periodic cleaning or when changing blades, disassemble the razor and use warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, metal polishes or aggressive compounds on the DLC-coated cap, as they may alter or damage the finished surface.
For the High Polish 316L components, normal gentle cleaning is sufficient. Avoid polishing compounds unless you specifically intend to alter the surface finish.
