Cx-V42 — Limited Edition 4 of 6

The Cx-V42 is built around one of the most distinctive materials we use: Damtanium, a forged Titanium Damascus created from layers of Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium.

Each Cx-V42 features an individually finished Damtanium cap. The forged layers create a pattern that runs through the material itself, while heat-developed color reveals and accentuates the structure beneath the surface. Because the pattern originates in the forged material, no two caps are exactly alike.

The cap is paired with a Grade 5 titanium Web base plate and S1 handle, keeping the complete razor remarkably light at approximately 47 grams.

Only six Cx-V42 razors will be made.

Damtanium — Forged Titanium Damascus

The defining element of the Cx-V42 is its Damtanium cap.

Damtanium is a form of Titanium Damascus forged from Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium. The material used for the Cx-V42 is custom forged for us in the USA.

Rather than creating a decorative pattern on the surface, the forging process brings different layers of titanium together within the material itself.

Once machined into the Cx cap, the surface is carefully refined and heat colored to reveal the pattern created by those forged layers.

Every section of the material is different. As a result, every Cx-V42 cap has its own combination of lines, movement and color.

The pattern is forged into the metal. The color reveals it.

Limited to Six

The Cx-V42 is a Limited Edition of six individually finished razors.

All six share the same fundamental design and material combination, but the nature of forged Titanium Damascus means that no two caps can have exactly the same pattern.

Each razor is individually numbered as part of the six-piece edition.

Once all six have been completed, the Cx-V42 edition is finished.

Availability

Our Limited Editions are finished individually, one razor at a time. They are not produced or kept in continuous inventory.

When the next piece is finished, we make it available on the website and email customers who have asked to be notified.

Because each release may consist of only a single razor, receiving a notification does not reserve the piece. The finished razor is made available to everyone on the notification list and remains available until purchased.

Color Revealed by Heat

The color of the Cx-V42 cap comes from the titanium itself.

During heat finishing, a thin oxide layer develops at the surface of the titanium. The different titanium layers within the Damtanium respond to the process, bringing contrast and color to the forged pattern.

The result can include variations of blue, violet, bronze, gold and other tones depending on the individual piece and the finishing process.

Because both the forged pattern and the final heat finishing vary, each Cx-V42 develops its own visual character.

The heat-developed oxide color is not a permanent coating. It can gradually change or wear with handling, use and environmental conditions. The surface may be allowed to evolve naturally over time or the heat-developed color can be reapplied.

Grade 5 Titanium Underneath

While the Damtanium cap gives the V42 its individual character, the remainder of the razor is precision machined from Grade 5 titanium — Ti-6Al-4V.

The combination keeps the complete Cx-V42 at approximately 47 grams, despite its full-length 92 mm handle.

The contrast is part of what makes this version of the Cx unusual: visually complex forged titanium paired with the extremely low weight of the titanium Cx platform.

Built Around the Cx

Beneath the exotic material, the V42 remains a Cx.

The thin head profile, Cx Pinch Design with close-edge blade support, and distinctive Web base plate retain the fundamental engineering of the platform.

The Damtanium cap changes the visual character and individuality of each razor. Your selected Cx base plate determines the fundamental shaving characteristics.

Our mildest option. Recommended for those who prefer less blade feel, shave frequently or have sensitive skin.

The original Cx configuration, with more noticeable blade feel and considerable control through shaving angle.

Plus (+) | .88 mm

A versatile balance of efficiency and reduced blade feel. A strong choice for denser growth or shaving every few days.

Plus Plus (++) | 1.08 mm

Our most efficient option, intended for heavier growth, longer intervals between shaves or those who simply prefer greater efficiency.

Why V42?

The name V42 comes from the V-42 fighting knife, developed for the First Special Service Force, the joint American-Canadian special operations unit formed during World War II and later known as the Devil's Brigade. The V-42 itself drew inspiration from the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife used by British commandos.

Our S1 handle takes inspiration from this family of fighting knives, particularly their distinctive ringed, hourglass-like handle geometry.

Rather than reproduce the original knife handle, the S1 translates elements of that historic form into the proportions and function of a modern safety-razor handle.

That connection gave this particular Damtanium Limited Edition its name:

Cx-V42.

Because of the nature of the forged material and individual finishing, pattern and color will vary from piece to piece. Small machining or finishing characteristics may be visible under magnification or on functional surfaces where preserving critical dimensions takes priority.

Caring for the Cx-V42

After shaving, rinse the razor thoroughly and allow it to dry.

For periodic cleaning or when changing blades, disassemble the razor and use warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, metal polishes or aggressive compounds on the Damtanium cap, as they can alter the hand-finished surface and heat-developed color.

The heat-developed oxide color can naturally change with handling and use. This evolution is characteristic of the finish rather than a defect.
