Custom Cx — Stainless Damascus / DLC

Carbon Cx Stainless Damascus/DLC combines custom-forged layered stainless steel with a deep black DLC treatment and individual hand finishing. The result is a darker, more technical interpretation of the traditional Damascus pattern.

The photographs shown here are examples of pieces we have completed previously. Because every forged Damascus component reveals a different section of the billet, each finished razor develops its own appearance.

These pieces are completed individually and in very small numbers.

Forged Pattern. Black DLC.

The foundation of this Cx is our Stainless Damascus, custom forged in the United States from layers of 304 and 316-series stainless steel.

After precision machining and surface preparation, the components receive a dark DLC treatment.

The coated components are then individually hand finished to bring the underlying Damascus structure into stronger visual contrast.

The result is neither a conventional polished Damascus razor nor a conventional black Cx.

The forged pattern and dark surface become part of the same design.

What Is DLC?

DLC stands for Diamond-Like Carbon, a broad family of carbon-based coatings known for properties that can include hardness, low friction and wear resistance.

For this Cx, the coating was selected primarily to create the deep black surface that contrasts with the forged Stainless Damascus beneath it.

That contrast allows the structure of the patterned material to become more graphic and pronounced.

Individually Revealed by Hand

The visual effect is created through more than coating alone.

Each component is individually finished so selected portions of the Stainless Damascus can contrast against the darker DLC surface.

Because the forged structure itself varies throughout the billet, no two finished pieces reveal exactly the same pattern.

The finish follows the material rather than forcing every piece to look identical.

Built Around the Cx

A Stainless Damascus/DLC Cx uses the same precision shaving geometry as the rest of the Cx platform.

The forged Stainless Damascus, DLC surface and hand finishing change the appearance, weight and feel of the razor, but they do not determine how aggressive or efficient the shave is.

That is controlled by the selected Cx base plate.

Mild (–) | .71 mm

Our mildest option. Recommended for those who prefer less blade feel, shave frequently or have sensitive skin.

Original | .68 mm

The original Cx configuration, with more noticeable blade feel and considerable control through shaving angle.

Plus (+) | .88 mm

A versatile balance of efficiency and reduced blade feel. A strong choice for denser growth or shaving every few days.

Plus Plus (++) | 1.08 mm

Our most efficient option, intended for heavier growth, longer intervals between shaves or those who simply prefer greater efficiency.

Hand-Finished Character

Each Stainless Damascus/DLC Cx is individually machined, coated and hand finished.

Differences in forged pattern, contrast and finishing are inherent to these pieces.

Small machining or forging characteristics may also remain in non-cosmetic areas, particularly beneath the cap.

Caring for Damascus / DLC

For normal care, rinse thoroughly after shaving and allow the components to dry.

Periodically clean the razor with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush.

Avoid abrasive cleaners or aggressive polishing, as these may change the intended contrast between the DLC surface and exposed Damascus.
