Why use a shaving brush? What shaving brush to buy?
History of the Shaving Brush
The brush is one of humanities earliest tool, from sweeping out our caves with a branch to the earliest known paintbrushes from the Paleolithic period (2.5 million years ago), the brush hasn’t changed much. The earliest known use of the mainstream shaving brush or shave brush we know today is possibly traced to France in the mid 1700 for the French aristocracy. The French actually call a shaving brush a "blaireau" or "badger" in English. These early designs were often made from exotic materials to cater to the elite who used...
Men's shaving for sensitive skin - Reducing shave burn, shaving irritation and razor bumps
Shaving with Sensitive Skin Introduction
Shaving bumps, irritation and razor burn in men with sensitive skin can be caused by hair being trapped under the skin. As the hair grows, it is trapped by the skin and grows inwards creating razor bumps, ingrown hairs and shaving irritation. It is common with curly hair. When the hair regrows and breaks the surface, it curls and then grows into the skin.
Another reason for getting irritation or razor bumps could be caused by the wrong technique for example shaving against the grain first. I hope my...
Titanium Damascus Safety Razors – "Damtanium"
What is Titanium Damascus?
We use a Titanium Damascus that is called Damtanium for our safety razors, it is made of 2 different grades of titanium, grade 2 titanium, and grade 5 titanium. Using a process similar to how we have our Stainless Damascus forged, layers of alternating titanium grades are fused and forged together with pressure and heat. Forging temperatures reach about 1500 degrees F...interesting but our Titanium is forged with higher pressures and lower temperatures then Damascus steel. The temperature, like with Mokume forging needs to be very carefully controlled.
Grade 2 titanium is considered “commercially pure” Titanium...
Cx Safety Razor vs. the Razor market
Carbon Shaving Co Design Philosophy
This blog might get a little long, but I wanted to write in more detail about what makes our high-quality Carbon Razor special and what we do with the design to make us competitively different. I will attempt to do this in 2 sections. In the first section, we will compare how we are different from plastic disposable razors and in the second section, we will compare ourselves to other safety razors in the market. We are biased, but I will try to bring into the conversation some of the comments our customers have said...
Titanium in Safety Razors
Why are Safety Razors Made with Titanium?
Titanium was named after the Titans of Greek mythology. The element was discovered in Great Britain in the late 1700. Titanium has 2 key properties that make it great for a safety razor for a number of reasons including:
It is extremely corrosion resistant, almost as much as platinum
We use Titanium wire to dip our Stainless Steel Damascus in Muratic and Ferric acid during etching. It is frequently used in the military applications in hostile environments
It has one of the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal.
It weighs about...
