Inspired by the 1945 Gillette Tech
The Story Behind the Carbon Razor
Inspired by a classic. Refined through modern engineering. Crafted to last a lifetime.
Every great design builds on the ideas that came before it.
The Carbon Shaving razor was inspired by one of the most respected safety razors ever produced—the 1945 Gillette Tech. Rather than reinventing a proven design, we studied what made it exceptional and asked where modern engineering could make it even better.
This video explores the design philosophy behind the Carbon razor and the nine features that shape its balance, comfort, efficiency, and shaving performance.
The Carbon razor wasn't designed to replace a classic—it was designed to build upon one.

Inspired by a Classic
The Carbon Shaving razor traces its roots to one of the most respected safety razors ever produced—the 1945 Gillette Tech. Its balanced geometry, intuitive handling, and comfortable shave earned it a lasting reputation among Allied servicemen during World War II and later generations of wet shaving enthusiasts.
Rather than reinventing a proven design, we studied what made it exceptional and asked where modern engineering could make it even better. Our goal wasn't to recreate a classic—it was to understand why it worked so well and thoughtfully refine it using modern engineering, precision machining, and premium materials.
We believe great design evolves. By preserving proven fundamentals while improving the details, we created a razor that honors its inspiration while delivering a distinctly modern shaving experience.
Thoughtful Improvements
Every design decision on the Carbon razor serves a purpose. Instead of adding features for their own sake, we focused on improving comfort, control, and ease of use.
A carefully balanced razor helps with control and promotes a natural shaving stroke. Ergonomic proportions provide a secure grip while maintaining excellent maneuverability and control.
The thin head profile makes it easier to shave under the nose and around tight facial contours where larger razor heads can become cumbersome.
Our unique pinch design clamps the blade securely from both above and below, increasing blade rigidity for a smoother, more controlled shave. The result is exceptional cutting precision with the stability traditionally associated with professional straight razors.
Performance by Design
Performance isn't defined by a single specification. It results from many design elements working together.
Larger chevron-shaped lather flow openings help shaving lather and cut whiskers rinse away more easily, keeping the blade clear throughout the shave.
Lightening holes reduce unnecessary weight in the base plate while preserving rigidity, contributing to the razor's overall balance without sacrificing strength.
Because every beard and every face is different, the Carbon razor is available with four interchangeable base plates. Whether you prefer a mild daily shave or a more efficient razor for several days of growth, you can choose the level of comfort and efficiency that best suits your shaving style.
Premium Materials
Material selection influences far more than appearance. It changes the character of the razor in your hand. Modern metallurgy has made premium materials available that simply weren't practical when the Gillette Tech was originally produced. Carbon Shaving takes advantage of those advancements to offer titanium, copper, Damascus steel, and other exceptional materials.
316L stainless steel offers excellent corrosion resistance and a reassuring weight that many traditional wet shavers enjoy. Titanium reduces weight while maintaining exceptional strength, creating a more agile shaving experience. Copper develops a rich natural patina over time, giving every razor a unique appearance.
For luxury razors and collectors, our Damascus steel and other exotic materials showcase the artistry of modern machining and finishing. These materials provide distinctive visual character and a unique ownership experience while maintaining the precision and performance expected from every Carbon razor. Every Damascus razor features a unique pattern, making each one truly one of a kind.
Regardless of material, every Carbon razor is built around the same commitment to thoughtful design, precision manufacturing, and long-term durability.
The Nine Carbon Shaving Design Features
Every Carbon Shaving razor is the result of hundreds of design decisions working together rather than any single feature standing alone.
From the inspiration of the 1945 Gillette Tech to the balance, ergonomics, thin head profile, pinch grip, lather flow, interchangeable base plates, premium materials, and precision manufacturing, each element contributes to the overall shaving experience.
Our philosophy has always been simple: preserve what has already proven itself, improve what modern engineering allows, and build a razor designed to deliver decades of exceptional shaves.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why was the 1945 Gillette Tech chosen as the inspiration?
We believe the 1945 Gillette Tech represented one of the purest examples of functional safety razor design. Many later designs introduced additional features, but not all of them meaningfully improved the shaving experience. Its balanced geometry, intuitive handling, and reputation for comfort made it an ideal foundation for the Carbon razor.
Is the Carbon razor a copy of the Gillette Tech?
No. The Carbon razor is inspired by the 1945 Gillette Tech, but it incorporates numerous original design decisions, including a Pinch Design head, multiple interchangeable base plates, refined ergonomics, premium materials, modern machining techniques, and other performance-focused features.
Why not create a completely new design?
Many classic designs have endured because they solve fundamental problems well. Rather than changing proven geometry for the sake of being different, we focused on refining and improving a respected foundation where modern engineering could add meaningful value.
Have a Question?
